Alternative Fuels/Ethanol

Saab advises its vehicles can tolerate a fuel blend of up to 10 per cent ethanol, however higher percentages of ethanol can cause serious damage to a regular vehicle.

In Sweden Saab has launched a flex-fuel vehicle, the Saab 9-5 BioPower, which is designed to run on ethanol without damage. Flex-fuel vehicles can be powered by either petrol or ethanol (E85) or a combination of the two.

Alternative fuels are a major component of GM Europe's short and mid-term strategy. At this time BioPower is not planned for Australia but we will work with our European colleagues to assess the viability of the vehicle for this market in relation to the regulatory environment and availability of suitable fuel.
